The Agafay desert starts about 40 kilometres from Marrakech, so you can leave the city in the afternoon and be at a luxury camp for sunset. You sleep in a tent with its own bathroom and are back in Marrakech by late morning.
Agafay is a stony desert of bare hills, with no sand dunes, between Marrakech and the High Atlas. On a clear day the mountains stand behind it, white with snow in winter. It is the closest place to the city where you can spend a night at a desert camp.
The camps here have large tents with proper beds and private bathrooms. A camel, quad or horse ride at sunset can be added.
From the afternoon pickup in Marrakech to the drop-off the next morning.
Pickup at your riad or hotel in the afternoon and a drive of about an hour to the camp, with time to settle in before the sun goes down over the hills.
Breakfast at the camp and a walk in the hills if you like, then the drive back to Marrakech, arriving in the late morning.
No. Agafay is a stony desert of low hills. For sand dunes you need to go to Erg Chebbi, Erg Chigaga or the dunes near Zagora, which takes at least two days.
