The Ouzoud falls drop about 110 metres in several steps into a gorge in the foothills of the Middle Atlas, around three hours from Marrakech. You walk down to the pool at the bottom, take a raft to the foot of the falls and eat lunch by the river.
The road crosses the farmland north-east of Marrakech and climbs to the village of Tanaghmeilt, at the top of the falls. Ouzoud is the Amazigh word for olives, and old mills still stand along the stream among the olive trees.
From the top, a path with steps leads down past small cafés to the pool. Boatmen take you close to the foot of the falls on rafts, and Barbary macaques live in the trees along the path. You come back up on the other side of the gorge.
