This Marrakech food tour spends three hours of the evening with a local guide, from the Koutoubia at sunset into Jemaa el-Fnaa as the food stalls light up. You try dishes at stalls the guide knows and walk back through the souks.
Jemaa el-Fnaa changes after dark. In the late afternoon the grills and benches of the food stalls go up, and by nightfall the square is full of musicians, storytellers and the crowds around them. UNESCO lists the square’s storytelling and performing traditions as intangible cultural heritage.
Your guide explains what is happening in each circle of people, points out the stalls where Marrakchis eat, and walks you home through the lanes when you have had enough.
From your pickup in the morning to the drop-off at the end of the day.
Your guide meets you at your riad or hotel about an hour before sunset and walks with you to the gardens of the Koutoubia mosque.
From a café terrace above the square you watch the stalls go up and the first musicians arrive, then go down and walk among them.
Dinner at one of the numbered food stalls or a roof restaurant, then a walk through the souks as the shops close. The guide brings you back to your door.
We pick you up at your riad or hotel in Marrakech at the time you choose. If your riad is in a lane cars cannot enter, the driver waits at the nearest square or gate and someone from the riad walks you there.
March to May and September to November are the easiest months for walking the city. Summer afternoons are very hot, so we start early or go in the evening.
Comfortable shoes, clothes that cover shoulders and knees, a hat in summer, and small change in dirhams for entrance fees and tips.
Prices are per person and depend on the size of your group. You book with a 20% deposit by card or PayPal and pay the balance on the first day of the tour.
If you cancel 30 days or more before the start, we refund the deposit in full; after that the deposit is kept. You can change the date once for free if you ask 14 days or more before. The details are in our Cancellation Policy.
Most visitors eat there without problems. Choose busy stalls where the food is cooked in front of you; the guide points out the ones locals use.
Harira soup, grilled skewers, merguez, snail broth, fried fish, msemen flatbread and fresh orange juice, depending on the night.
Very, and it stays lively until late. As in any crowd, keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket. Your guide can steer you past the snake charmers and henna sellers if you would rather avoid them.
